The first time I heard about them I was attending a “battle of the bands” at my high school.
I did my very best to dress as “rock n’ roll” as I possibly could, but all I could muster out of my closet was a pair of navy converse and a small bottle of black fingernail polish, good enough.
I was irritated that the admission fee to get in was a pack of diapers. Really? I thought selfishly.
Why on earth are they making us pay with diapers?
So with my black fingernails and navy converse I visited Wal-Mart and purchased a small pack of Huggies.
As I walked through the front doors of Alabama Chrisitan Academy gym, the sign attached to the admissions table said “Donations for Stella’s Voice”.
What in the world was Stella’s Voice?
The bands battled and intermission came, and then she came on stage. A young girl, looked about my age, brace face, and seemingly terrified. The gym was silent, all you could hear was an occasional awkward cough.
An announcer spoke, introducing this girl, explaining she was orphaned as a child and now rescued, and that all the proceeds from the evening were going to the orphans in Moldova.
What in the world is Moldova?
The girl spoke in broken English “Um, Hello, my name is Natalie. I will be singing ‘No Orphans in Heaven’.
As she sang I felt hot tears coming down my face.
‘What is wrong with me?? I don’t even know this girl.’
I didn’t know her story, neither did anyone else, but we all felt the power of her testimony through the lyrics she sang.
Two years later, this same ministry came to my church, this time bringing 15 young girls to share their stories, including Natalie.
They shared the story of their lives with our church family and the emotions were intense.
There was not a dry eye in the building.
Moldova is a small country bordering Romania. This country, once ruled by Soviet Russia, lost all control when Soviet Russia fell, leaving many without jobs.
People fled in search for jobs and money, leaving their children under orphan care.
Orphans are a prime target for sex trafficking predators, and Moldova makes great money by way of trafficking.
Did you know that 27 million are trafficked? And the numbers are only growing.
These girls were abandoned in an orphanage, they were abused emotionally, and with the conditions they survived, I would dare say physically. They lived in hopelessness and abandon, until one day, one man decided to walk in the path the Lord had set before him. His path was navigated so perfectly to protect the orphans, giving them hope and a future.
He created a safe place, a home, for the orphans to live in when they aged out of the orphanage at 16 years-old. Protecting them from the dangers of trafficking.
He saw the need for protection from human trafficking, a home where they could be warm and well fed, and a place where they were loved.
My husband and I have loved this ministry for years now and FINALLY have an opportunity to go to Moldova and experience Stella’s House and the orphanage where most of the children come from.
We need help though. We have 15 days to raise the money we need to go to Moldova in August, and we can’t do it without you!
I ask that you pray for us as we journey these next two weeks and that God provides all that we need and more!
